Cervical smears
All women who are registered with a GP are invited for cervical screening:
- aged 25 to 49 – every three years
- aged 50 to 64 – every five years
- over 65 – only women who haven’t been screened since age 50 or those who have recently had abnormal tests
This is a 20 minute appointment with a Practice Nurse.
Breast screening
All women between 47 and 73 years who are registered with a GP will be invited for screening every 3 years. The invitation is sent out automatically.
Currently all women will receive their first invitation for a mammogram sometime between their 49th and 53rd birthdays. The risk of getting breast cancer increases as women get older and we encourage women over 70 to continue with three yearly screening.
All women over the age of 70 need to contact the Jarvis Centre to arrange an appointment.
